Cumbria

Starting from the west coast, days are often overcast with drizzle or light rain, sometimes briefly heavy, broken by short dry intervals. Pushing into Ennerdale and the central fells, precipitation flips between drizzle, light rain and snow, with cloud frequently sitting low over passes. Around Borrowdale and Patterdale, snow showers and the odd heavier fall crop up, while milder spells can bring sleet or plain rain to the valleys. East toward Shap and Kirkby Stephen it stays changeable and wintry, with intermittent snow and damp, grey days; temperatures feel mostly cold, near freezing on higher ground.

North Yorkshire

Crossing into the Pennine headwaters around Keld, cold snaps often bring snow to the tops, with quieter overcast pauses between bands of showers. Down through Swaledale to the lower country and Richmond, wintry showers ease to drizzle or light rain, though a few heavier, wetter spells move through. The flat Vale of Mowbray is largely dull with occasional light drizzle and brief dry interludes. Climbing onto the North York Moors near Clay Bank and White Cross it turns wintrier again with a mix of snow, sleet and drizzle, before easing a little toward Grosmont and the coast, where it stays mostly cloudy with light rain or drizzle and sporadic snow; overall it remains cold, a touch less sharp by the sea.
