Weather forecast for the Wainwright's Coast to Coast in July

July on Wainwright’s Coast to Coast Walk feels changeable but generally kind. Days are mostly mild to warm, with a regular mix of cloud and bright spells. Western uplands see frequent light showers and drizzle that can join into steadier rain, while farther east the pattern leans drier with longer sunny intervals. Air often feels a bit humid after rain, winds are usually gentle inland but fresher on high ground and near the sea, and nights settle to cool rather than cold.

Cumbria

From the coast at St Bees, the Irish Sea often pushes in low cloud, bringing light drizzle or brief rain, with brighter breaks between passing showers. Into Ennerdale and Borrowdale the fells stay changeable: showery pulses sweep through, and at times a heavier spell sets in before clearing to sunny intervals. Over the high ground toward Patterdale the mix continues, with occasional longer wet periods balanced by clearer, warmer windows. Crossing to Shap and on to Kirkby Stephen it tends to settle a little, with more dry stretches and broader skies; most afternoons reach the mid-teens to low 20s C, cooler on tops and in a breeze.

North Yorkshire

Into Swaledale at Keld and down to Reeth, showers become more scattered and sunshine lasts longer between them, though a brief burst of rain can still pass through. Across Richmond and the Vale of Mowbray toward Danby Wiske and Ingleby Cross, days are often the warmest and most settled of the walk, with long dry intervals under high cloud, punctuated at times by a sharp shower. Climbing onto the Cleveland Hills and over the North York Moors near Clay Bank and White Cross, low cloud and drizzle off the North Sea are common with a fresher breeze, but clear spells can give wide, sunny views. Through Grosmont to the coast the air turns more maritime, with patchy drizzle or overcast giving way at times to brighter, mostly dry periods; temperatures typically sit in the mid-teens to low 20s C, tempered by onshore winds at Robin Hood’s Bay.
