Cumbria

From the Irish Sea the opening miles are often overcast with drizzle or light rain, with sleet or wet snow in colder snaps. Through Ennerdale and into Borrowdale and Patterdale, the fells see the most wintry weather, where snow showers or short heavy bursts alternate with grey, damp lulls and the odd clear spell. Over the passes, precipitation flips between rain in the valleys and snow on higher tops. East toward Shap and Kirkby Stephen the pattern becomes more mixed, with longer dry intervals and some milder interludes, broadly ranging from around freezing at night to the low teens Celsius on better afternoons.

North Yorkshire

From Keld into Swaledale, lingering wintry showers remain possible, with quick shifts between light snow, drizzle, and brighter spells. Dropping to the lower dales around Reeth and Richmond, days are often cloudy with light rain or drizzle punctuated by drier spells, and brief mild lifts appear between fronts. Crossing the Vale toward Ingleby Cross, conditions trend flatter and overcast with lighter precipitation, before the North York Moors bring cooler air, more cloud, and showery rain with occasional hill snow on exposed tops. Near the coast from Grosmont to Robin Hood's Bay it stays mostly cloudy with on-and-off drizzle or light rain and some longer dry windows, with temperatures generally in the single digits to low teens Celsius and a touch milder by the sea.
