Cumbria

Starting on the Irish Sea coast, it is often overcast with showers moving in from the west; rain can be persistent at times, with brief clearer intervals. Into Ennerdale and Borrowdale, the fells funnel showers and the cloud often sits low, bringing drizzle, hill fog, and occasional heavy rain; on the highest crossings toward Patterdale, sleet or a short-lived snowfall is possible. Temperatures generally run from near freezing on high ground to the low teens Celsius on milder days, and strong gusts can make it feel colder on the ridges.

Crossing out of the central fells toward Shap, the rain frequency eases at times with longer overcast but dry spells, though showers still sweep through on Atlantic fronts. Over the higher limestone and into the Eden fringe toward Kirkby Stephen, expect a cool, breezy feel with occasional bursts of heavier rain, and a risk of frost or icy patches after clearer nights in sheltered valleys.

North Yorkshire

From Keld down Swaledale to Reeth and Richmond, the pattern stays changeable: many cloudy hours with light rain or drizzle, interspersed with brief brighter windows. Upland sections can catch sleet or a touch of wet snow in colder snaps, while the valley bottoms are more often just damp with mist clinging to slopes. Overall it feels cool, typically ranging from low single digits to the low teens Celsius depending on elevation and air mass.

Across the Vale of Mowbray toward Danby Wiske, conditions are often quieter and relatively dry compared with the hills, with long stretches of grey skies and only patchy drizzle. Approaching Ingleby Cross and climbing onto the Cleveland Hills and North York Moors, exposure increases and showers become sharper; low cloud and hill fog are common, and a wintry flurry is possible on the tops.

Through the moors past Clay Bank and White Cross to Grosmont and the North Sea, winds can freshen and showers line up, bringing occasional heavier rain. Near the coast the air is a shade milder but still unsettled, with frequent low cloud and drizzle offset by the odd brighter interlude before reaching the cliffs.
