March on the Camino de Santiago Francés typically features fluctuating weather patterns. Early in the month, the days can start crisp with temperatures ranging from 0°C in the mornings to mild afternoons reaching about 20°C. Rain is common, with frequent showers and occasional cloudy days breaking into sunshine. Towards the month's end, temperatures tend to slightly warm, though rains and heavy drizzles continue to appear sporadically, especially in the mountainous and coastal areas.
Starting in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, March begins with varied weather—patchy rain and overcast skies punctuate the path, with temperatures dancing around 8°C to 17°C. Heading towards Roncesvalles, the rain continues intermittently, casting both sunny spells and cloudy forecasts with highs fluctuating between 8°C to 17°C.
Enter Zubiri and Pamplona as the rains persist but with more frequent sunny interludes. The fluctuations in highs, from roughly 5°C to 20°C, continue through Puente la Reina and Estella. These first stages see a dance between patchy clouds and sunny moments, occasionally ushering in patchy rain and even snow showers in the cooler mornings.
In Logroño and Nájera, clouds give way to sun with temperatures beginning to rise, showing significant warmth in the afternoons while keeping the evenings cool. High temperatures can reach up to 24°C at times, though night-time lows remind you of the chilly March touch.
Progressing through Burgos and León provinces, the initial sunny skies with sporadic light rain transform into overcast and rainy spells. Mornings are brisk, dropping to about -3°C, while afternoons enjoy a bit more warmth, sometimes touching 21°C. Entering the elevations around Foncebadón and Ponferrada, frequent showers and bursts of sunshine compete for the sky.
From O Cebreiro to Santiago de Compostela, the familiar pattern of intermittent rain continues, swinging between moderate rain showers and sunny intervals. High temperatures hover near 21°C on warm days with lows dipping to 1°C during cool nights, especially in Galicia's lush regions toward the trail's end.
