Weather forecast for the Camino de Santiago Francés in March

March on the Camino Francés is changeable and unsettled. Skies lean cloudy much of the time, with frequent light showers and occasional heavier bursts, broken by short sunny windows. Days feel generally cool, with chilly starts and some mild afternoons when the sun appears. The higher passes can still see sleet or snow, while the open plateau is often dry between passing systems. As you near the Atlantic, rain becomes more regular again. Overall it feels like late winter giving way to early spring, never truly warm but already very walkable.

Navarre

Over the Pyrenees into Navarre, expect low cloud, drizzle, and a real chance of sleet or snow on the heights. As you drop into the valleys, the pattern shifts to overcast spells with light rain, broken by occasional clearer, milder afternoons. Temperatures are generally cool to mild, often in the single digits to mid-teens Celsius.

La Rioja

Across La Rioja, sunny breaks become more common between passing fronts, but showers still move through and can be briefly heavy. Mornings start cool and afternoons can feel spring-like, with a small chance of wet snow on higher nearby hills after colder changes. Expect cool to mild conditions overall, generally in the single digits to mid-teens Celsius.

Castile and León

Out of the foothills and onto the Burgos plain, the weather turns more settled in feel: many cloudy days with long dry windows, interrupted by light drizzle or a passing shower. Mornings can be crisp, while afternoons often nudge into a gentle, cool-mild range.

Through León province toward the mountains, the mix continues until the climb to Foncebadón, where colder air brings a clear risk of sleet or snow over the crest. Dropping into the Bierzo valley, afternoons tend to be milder with more bright spells, though showers still appear. Overall temperatures run cool to mild, roughly single digits to mid-teens Celsius.

Galicia

At O Cebreiro and other high points, Atlantic systems bring frequent cloud, light rain or drizzle, and occasional snow flurries. Through the rolling interior, days often begin grey with showers passing through, then short brighter intervals open up. Near Santiago, fronts can deliver longer periods of steady rain, but there are still usable dry windows. Temperatures stay cool, generally in the low to mid-teens Celsius at best.
