From the Atlantic fringe into the Basque hills, days are often overcast with passing showers or drizzle that turn to snow as you gain height. Inland, fronts move through quickly, so a wet morning can flip to a bright spell and then back to another band of precipitation. Near the higher valleys and cols, snowfall becomes frequent and at times heavy, with low cloud and occasional whiteout; lower down, sleet or cold rain punctuates the snowy periods. Temperatures generally range from around freezing in the uplands to the low teens near the coast.
Across the central Pyrenees, the pattern stays wintry: from the high valleys west of Luchon through Cauterets and Barèges, regular snow arrives on the ridges with short, clear windows between systems. Around Luchon the valleys can feel milder and briefly springlike, yet neighboring passes swing back to snow, with rain or sleet mixing in lower down. In the Ariège, conditions turn harsher again with persistent cold and recurring snowfall around the high refuges, before the eastern foothills trend drier and sunnier near Canigou. The final run to the Mediterranean is often brighter with longer sunny breaks and occasional showery days, with temperatures from well below freezing high up to the low–mid teens by the coast.
