Nouvelle-Aquitaine

From the Atlantic, many days are overcast with drizzle or light rain, punctuated by brief sunny breaks. The valleys feel cool to mild, often in the single digits to low teens °C. As the route turns through the Basque foothills, showers come and go and some higher ridges pick up wet snow.

Climbing into the Béarn valleys toward the higher passes, wintry weather is common. Rain at lower levels often turns to snow with height, and snow cover lingers near the ski areas. Cold snaps and heavier snow are interspersed with clear, crisp interludes, but cloud and new fronts return frequently.

Occitanie

Through the high valleys around Arrens, Cauterets, Luz and Barèges, March still feels like winter aloft. Fronts bring frequent snowfall to the cols, while the valleys see a shifting mix of cloud, brief sunshine and rain. Daytime temperatures in the valleys are typically in the low to mid‑teens °C, but freeze–thaw is routine higher up.

Around Luchon and along the central crest into Ariège, weather swings quickly between bright spells and passing rain or sleet in the valleys, with regular snow on the ridges. The high basins and refuges remain in full winter with frequent snowfall, while lower settlements get milder breaks between bands of cloud. Visibility can drop in storms, then open wide on clearer days.

Farther east toward Capcir and Cerdagne, snow still falls on the high plateaus, but lower slopes see longer dry windows and more sun. Near Canigou and down to the Mediterranean, days are often bright and notably drier, with only isolated showers. The coast tends to feel springlike and mild to warm in the afternoons, though cooler, cloudier incursions still pass through.
