Weather forecast for the GR 10 in May

May on the GR 10 feels like spring in the mountains: changeable and often damp in the west, with brighter breaks between passing fronts. Days are generally cool to mild, with occasional warm spells in sheltered valleys, while nights still feel fresh. Showers are common, and some arrive as longer periods of rain; you may get several grey days and then a clear window. Higher passes keep winter’s touch, with lingering snowfields and the chance of a fresh dusting during unsettled snaps. As you move toward the Mediterranean, skies open more often, the air turns warmer, and dry days become more frequent, though brief showers can still appear.

Nouvelle-Aquitaine

From the Atlantic coast, May brings plenty of cloud and frequent light rain or drizzle, with brief brighter spells between showers. As the trail climbs through the Basque hills, it stays changeable; low cloud often clings to ridges and passing showers are regular. Reaching the higher Béarn valleys, rain becomes more frequent and sometimes heavy, with a cool, damp feel. On the tops, late snow lingers and occasional fresh dustings are still possible, while clearer interludes can deliver milder afternoons.

Occitanie

Crossing into the high western Pyrenees, the pattern remains unsettled: repeated pulses of showers and longer periods of rain break up sunny windows. The high country keeps winter’s grip at times, with lingering snow and occasional fresh falls, while valleys see brighter spells between systems.

Around Luchon and through the Ariège foothills, the weather alternates between mostly dry, pleasant days and showery spells with bursts of heavier rain. Cloud can sit on the ridges, but clearer breaks appear regularly; high cols can still turn wintry in passing disturbances, even as the valleys feel mild to warm.

Farther east over the central high ground and toward Cerdagne and Canigou, the mix of sun and showers continues, with a few cold snaps on the highest tops. Nearing the Mediterranean, conditions turn notably drier and sunnier, and warmth builds. Isolated showers can still pop up, but many days are bright with longer dry stretches all the way to the coast.
