Nouvelle-Aquitaine

From the Atlantic side into the Basque hills, August days alternate between low cloud, misty starts, and light drizzle, then lift to warm sunny breaks. Showers are common and occasionally turn heavy as fronts brush in from the ocean, but there are also dry stretches with hazy sun. Nights are generally mild at low elevation.

Heading inland around the foothills and deep valleys, the pattern stays changeable: bright or partly cloudy mornings often give way to scattered showers or a brief downpour. Valley bottoms can feel summery and at times quite warm between systems, while overcast spells keep things subdued.

Climbing into the higher cirques and passes, it cools noticeably and cloud tends to cling to the ridges. Showers remain frequent, with occasional heavier bursts, yet clear windows arrive between disturbances, offering bright, breezy-feeling interludes and cooler nights.

Occitanie

Crossing the central high ranges, expect an active mix of sunshine and showers. Some days bring longer wet spells or intense bursts of rain, especially near passes and lakes, while other days open clean and bright before cloud rebuilds.

Around the broader valleys and spa towns, the air often turns hot and summery between systems. Short, sharp showers can sweep through, most likely in the afternoon, then fade to calmer evenings that stay on the mild side.

Across the Ariège highlands and granite massifs, conditions vary quickly with height. Crests and plateaus are cooler and more prone to midday cloud build-up and scattered showers, sometimes lingering; clear spells follow with fresher nights and a crisp feel at elevation.

Toward the eastern Pyrenees and down to the Mediterranean, sunshine becomes more dependable and the overall pattern drier. Showers still occur, occasionally heavy but usually brief, and warm, settled days grow more frequent as the route reaches the coast, where long sunny periods are typical.
