Weather forecast for the GR 10 in September

September on the GR 10 is changeable and shaped by altitude. The Atlantic end starts mild to warm and humid, with plenty of cloud and passing showers between bright spells. As you move into the higher Pyrenees it cools; cloud often clings to ridges and periodic fronts bring rain, with a small chance of the first flurries on the highest ground. Farther east, days trend drier and sunnier toward the Mediterranean, though short, intense downpours can still pop up. Daytime temperatures typically sit in the high teens to mid‑20s°C depending on elevation, with cooler nights at altitude.

Nouvelle-Aquitaine

From the Atlantic coast into the Basque hills, days are mild to warm and humid, with lots of cloud and frequent light showers mixed with sunny breaks. As the route climbs inland, warm spells do appear on clearer days, but slopes and ridges often pull in low cloud and drizzle. Approaching the higher Béarn valleys and the cirques above, the air turns fresher and the weather more changeable; occasional bursts of heavier rain sweep through. Daytime temperatures are mostly in the high teens to mid‑20s°C, with nights becoming cool at altitude.

Occitanie

Crossing the central high Pyrenees, expect a lively mix of sunshine and cloud with periodic rain, at times heavy, and summits often in mist. Clear spells follow fronts, but another showery pulse is never far behind, and streams can swell quickly after downpours. A brief cold snap can dust the highest cols with sleet or snow while valleys stay merely cool and damp. Daytime temperatures span from the low teens on exposed high ground to the mid‑20s°C in sheltered valleys.

Through the Ariège high country the pattern stays changeable: many mornings start bright, then cloud builds with scattered afternoon showers or a short storm, and nights are notably cool aloft. On the open Cerdagne–Capcir plateau it turns crisper and often drier, though a passing front can still bring a chilly burst and even a brief flurry on the highest ridges. Near Canigou and down to the Mediterranean, the weather settles into longer sunny spells and warmer afternoons, but isolated heavy downpours remain possible. Overall it becomes increasingly dry toward the coast.
