Moving through the Basque hills, the weather comes in pulses: calm, sunny spells give way to showers or longer rain, and a persistent ocean influence keeps the air moist.
Climbing into Béarn and the higher valleys, it turns cooler and more unsettled. Heavy rain occasionally sweeps through, cloud sits low on the ridges, and the highest cols may see a brief wintry touch. Temperatures run from mild near sea level to chilly, sometimes cold, on exposed tops.
Crossing the central Pyrenees, the route weaves between clear, crisp days and active fronts. Around the big passes and lakes, rain is frequent, often turning to sleet or snow on higher ground, with cold snaps between milder, brighter intervals. Valleys stay mostly cool with damp spells and low cloud when systems move through. Temperatures range from cool in the valleys to decidedly cold on the highest ridges.
