The Camino Ignaciano route spans several autonomous communities in northern Spain, each with distinct weather patterns and temperature ranges as you journey through them in March.
In the Basque Country, you can generally expect cool and wet conditions. The temperatures typically range between lows of 3°C to highs of 12°C. Rain is quite common, with various forms such as moderate rain showers, patchy rain, and occasional heavy rain. Cloudy and overcast conditions are also frequent, though there are occasional sunny days.
Moving into La Rioja, the weather becomes slightly milder with temperatures ranging from 3°C to 15°C. You will encounter fewer rainy days and more instances of partly cloudy and sunny conditions. However, sporadic heavy rain and light drizzle can still occur. The precipitation levels are generally moderate, but you are more likely to experience drier days.
As you progress into Navarra, the mild trend continues with temperatures from 4°C to 16°C. The region sees a mix of sunny, partly cloudy, and rainy days, while patchy rain is quite possible. Precipitation decreases further compared to the Basque Country, providing a more pleasant walking experience.
Upon entering Aragon, temperatures warm up, ranging between 4°C and 18°C. Sunny days predominate, particularly as you get closer to Catalonia. Precipitation levels drop significantly, with many days either cloudy or partly cloudy. Rain can occur but is less frequent and usually lighter compared to the northern regions.
As you reach Catalonia towards the end of your journey, the weather becomes even warmer and drier with temperatures varying from 5°C to 18°C. This region offers many clear skies and sunny days, interspersed with occasional partly cloudy and overcast conditions. Rain is rare, and precipitation levels are generally low, ensuring more dry and pleasant walking days.
