The John Muir Trail runs through California's Sierra Nevada mountains and has a cool to cold climate in April. Most of the time, you'll find sunny weather with some clouds and occasional rain or snow.
In higher areas, temperatures are usually between 21°F and 44°F. There are many sunny days, but sometimes you might get light freezing rain, scattered rain, or snow showers. Some places, like Donahue Pass and Red’s Meadow, get more snow.
As you move to lower areas, like around Muir Trail Ranch, temperatures get warmer, ranging from the low 40s°F to high 50s°F during the day, and mid-20s°F to low 40s°F at night. Sunny days are common, but it can still rain, sometimes moderately.
Towards the end of the trail near Whitney Portal, it gets even warmer, with highs up to 67°F. There is little rain, but light freezing rain and patchy rain can still happen.
Overall, expect variable weather on the John Muir Trail in April, with mostly cool to cold temperatures, occasional rain or snow, and many sunny days mixed with cloudy ones.
