Weather forecast for the Kerry Way in April

April on The Kerry Way is changeable and cool to mild. Overcast skies are common, with frequent light drizzle or light rain, but the month also brings dry spells and brief sunny breaks. A few days still see heavier rain, while clear windows can open quickly afterward. Nights feel chilly, especially on higher ground, and morning dampness is usual. A late cold snap is still possible on the hills, though it is short-lived. Overall, expect a mix of cloud and showers with occasional brighter interludes rather than settled sunshine.

Setting out from the inland lakes and woodlands, the trail often begins under grey skies with light drizzle or patchy light rain. Brief clearer spells do appear, but cloud tends to reform, leaving the air damp and cool. As the route slips into the valley, showers drift through, and a heavier burst can arrive without much warning.

Climbing toward the passes and dropping to the northern side, the pattern stays mixed: showery intervals alternating with drier windows and occasional bright breaks. Higher ground can catch colder air, and a late-season wintry flurry on the tops is not impossible, though it tends to be short. Along the approach to the coast, drizzle is frequent, with an odd spell of steadier rain.

On the more exposed western arc, light rain and drizzle are common, and every so often a band of heavier rain sweeps through before easing back to overcast. Between these bands there are quieter stretches that are mostly dry but still cloudy. Daytime temperatures are generally in the low to mid-teens Celsius, feeling milder when the sun breaks out.

Around the southern coves and headlands, the weather remains variable: mostly cloudy with scattered light showers, punctuated by short brighter spells. Upland saddles may still see a rare mix of sleet or wet snow in a cold snap, while lower sections stay as rain.

Turning east toward more sheltered inlets and the final inland leg, the mix continues—occasional heavier bursts bookended by longer dry spells under grey skies. Some days clear late, offering a brighter finish, but the overall theme is changeable spring weather. Nights can feel chilly, especially after clearer evenings, before cloud and showers return.
