In November, the weather along the Camino de Madrid is quite diverse as it traverses through the regions of Madrid, Castile and León, and Galicia. The temperatures generally vary moderately without extreme conditions, with periodic rains and occasional sunny breaks. Patches of rain, particularly in the Madrid and Galicia regions, bring varying degrees of wetness, often escalating to heavier showers as the Pilgrim progresses into the western segments. Cloud cover commonly fluctuates, offering regular intervals of pleasant and clear weather. Temperature lows are around the single digits, while the highs oscillate in the teens, occasionally reaching over 20°C in certain localities.
Starting from Madrid, the weather is initially clear and sunny with highs reaching up to 24°C. Occasional light drizzle marks the shift towards cooler days, with some cloud cover and periodic light rains becoming more frequent as one moves toward Tres Cantos and Manzanares el Real, where temperatures hover around mid-teens with noticeable rainy days.
In Cercedilla, the weather turns noticeably cooler, with highs in the low teens and increasing precipitation, sometimes reaching up to 14.3 mm in a day. The conditions here set the stage for an intensified rain pattern as the journey progresses into Castile and León.
From Segovia onwards, frequent rain persists, interspersed with dry and sunny intervals. Temperatures stay relatively low, mostly between 7°C and 15°C. Santa María la Real de Nieva and Coca experience sporadic showers mixed with sunny spells. The presence of heavy showers intensifies toward Alcazarén and Puente Duero, with heavy precipitation recorded on multiple days.
As travelers progress through Peñaflor de Hornija and Medina de Rioseco, the weather is marked by overcasts with intermittent rain showers, seeing temperatures mostly staying below 16°C. The occasional sunny day offers reprieve amid regular rain spells, which intensify around Santervás de Campos and Sahagún.
In León, San Martín del Camino, and Astorga, the rains come in heavy bursts, although there are days of clear weather allowing temperatures to rise close to or beyond 16°C. Ponferrada and Villafranca del Bierzo continue to experience this alternating pattern of moderate rain and sunny breaks, further showcasing the variability in the region’s weather.
As the Camino approaches Galicia at O Cebreiro, the climate brings heavy and frequent rains with more overcast days. The temperatures slightly improve on sunnier days, reaching highs around 17°C in Triacastela and Sarria. This cyclical pattern persists across Portomarín and Palas de Rei, where the rain thankfully subsides often enough to provide clear stretches.
Finally, reaching Santiago de Compostela, the weather will end the trail with alternating days of heavy showers and clearer skies. Although the region experiences its share of rainfall, temperatures remain moderate for November, ensuring the journey concludes under fairly temperate conditions, albeit with plentiful rain.
