Haute-Savoie

Setting out, the lower French valleys see a lot of mixed sky: overcast mornings, short sunny breaks, and frequent drizzle or light rain, with a few pulses of heavier rain. Afternoons often sit in the mid‑teens to low 20s in the valleys, but the air cools quickly on the climbs, and a colder snap can turn high‑level showers wintry.

Returning on the Chamonix side, the pattern stays unsettled but punctuated by clearer windows. Bands of cloud and scattered showers drift through around the high balconies, with the odd heavier spell before skies open again for views. The final descent feels comfortable in the valley air, though early starts and evenings remain on the cool side.

Aosta Valley

Crossing toward the Italian side, overcast periods and light drizzle are common, at times building into steady rain on the approach to the passes. Near the higher huts, colder incursions can flip showers to wet snow when cloud sits low across the cols.

Down in the main valley the weather brightens more often, with milder afternoons and some longer sunny breaks, but showers still pop up and the odd spell turns heavy. Climbing back onto the high terrace paths, temperatures drop again toward exposed sections, and a brief wintry flurry remains possible in a cold snap. Valley afternoons commonly reach the upper teens to low 20s.

Valais

Into Switzerland, many stretches are dry but not fully settled: broken cloud, occasional light showers, and periods of steady rain pass through. Mornings feel fresh in the side valleys, while lakeside hours can bring comfortable warmth with brief sunshine.

Approaching the Forclaz, cloud often banks up and drizzle can linger, with a passing front sometimes delivering heavier rain. On cooler days, the highest points flirt with sleet or a stray snow shower before brighter intervals reappear. Afternoon temperatures generally hover around the mid‑teens in these sections.
