Haute-Savoie

Starting in Les Houches and up toward Les Contamines, the month brings a steady run of overcast skies with recurring snow showers, sometimes heavy, and short sunny breaks between passing systems. Valley floors occasionally see wetter snow or a touch of rain during milder intrusions, but higher trails remain snowy and often wind-scoured. After the loop through Switzerland, the return via Tré-le-Champ and La Flégère is similarly changeable, with renewed snowfalls and gusty ridgeline winds when fronts move through. Temperatures are mostly below freezing, briefly edging near the thaw in the lowest parts.

Aosta Valley

From Les Chapieux over toward Rifugio Elisabetta, weather turns more alpine, with frequent snowfall and limited visibility on the high ground, then clearer interludes dropping into Val Veny. Courmayeur can sit under cloud with periods of light snow, but it also catches occasional brighter windows before the next system arrives. Along the balcony toward Rifugio Bonatti, expect fresh snow to return often and winds to funnel down the valleys, making it feel sharper. Temperatures are predominantly below freezing, with only brief softening in sheltered sun.

Valais

Crossing into Val Ferret at La Fouly, conditions are cold and wintry, with light snow between clearer spells. The approach to Champex‑Lac often sees longer breaks in the cloud and calmer periods, though passing bands can still dust the forest with fresh flakes. Toward the Col de la Forclaz, exposure increases and snow showers pick up again, with occasional heavier bursts and a noticeable breeze on open slopes. Temperatures sit around freezing or below for most of this stretch.
