Starting by the Rhine–Mosel confluence, the path often opens with grey skies, on-and-off drizzle, and periodic snow showers. Along the lower and middle Mosel around Alken, Treis-Karden, Bullay and Traben-Trarbach, overcast dominates, with light precipitation most days and the odd heavier spell that can quickly turn snow to rain during milder pushes. Through Osann-Monzel and Klüsserath toward Schweich, bursts of steadier rain are possible, then breaks arrive before the next band of showers. Near Trier, Mannebach and Perl, colder snaps can bring fresh snow, followed by a rapid thaw and more rain; temperatures generally sit from around 0 to 10°C.
Crossing into Lorraine at Kédange-sur-Canner, the pattern stays mixed: frequent cloud, light drizzle, and episodes of snow when colder air briefly takes hold. Around Vigy, passing fronts can deliver a soaking with a milder feel, then ease to overcast and drier gaps. Approaching Metz, expect the same swing between wet snow and rain, with occasional clearer intervals. Temperatures broadly run from near 0 to the high single digits Celsius.
