March along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path presents varied weather conditions, with notable fluctuations in temperature and precipitation. The progression through the month witnesses a mix of overcast skies, patches of sun, and frequent rain showers. Daily highs range from single digits to low teens, while lows hover around the freezing mark to 9°C. Rainfall varies significantly, with some days experiencing heavy showers and others remaining dry.
Beginning at St Dogmaels, the weather initially shows variability with a mix of sunny and rainy days. Temperatures swing between highs of 9°C and lows down to -1°C at times, often accompanied by moderate to heavy rain showers, particularly towards the later days. As the journey continues to Newport Town, similar conditions persist, with some sunny breaks amid periods of moderate or heavy rain, keeping temperatures between 10°C and 0°C.
At Fishguard, the trend of alternating rain and brief sunny spells continues. Highs stay around 9°C, while mornings can be chilly, with lows often near 3°C. Notable is the heavy rain that visits often, adding to the overall precipitation tally. Further down the path at Pwll Deri, the narrative is similar, with sporadic sunny episodes before giving way to overcast or rainy periods. Highs rarely surpass 9°C, with an occasional dip at night.
Continuing to Porthgain and Whitesands, the weather echoes previous sections: moderate temperatures in the day dropping slightly at night, and frequent rain showers disrupting clearer days. As hikers approach Solva to Broad Haven, there are interludes of more significant sunny periods, but rain remains a constant companion. Rain intensity fluctuates but often includes heavy spells, especially around Broad Haven, where day highs reach up to around 11°C.
Finally, as the path stretches to Martin’s Haven and beyond, including Dale and Neyland, heavier rainfall becomes frequent, although brief patches of sun do occasionally break through the clouds. The temperature remains mild, offering slight relief during lulls in rainfall. Near the end of the trail from Angle to Amroth, the weather maintains its capricious nature, ending the traversal with heavy rains interspersed with cloudy and partly cloudy conditions.
