In May, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path encounters varied weather conditions. It often experiences cloudy and rainy weather, interspersed with sunny intervals. Rain showers can turn heavier, especially amidst the ever-present clouds. The temperature ranges broadly from lows of 6°C to highs of 18°C, with precipitation varying significantly day to day. Periods of sunshine pierce through the overcast skies, offering occasional warmth and brightness in contrast to the frequent rain.
Starting the walk at St Dogmaels, the weather fluctuates with moderate rain and periods of sunshine, temperatures peaking at 18°C, and rainfall reaching up to 14 mm on wetter days.
Moving to Newport Town, the conditions remain mixed. Sunny spells appear amidst moderate rain, with heavy showers at times and highs around 16°C.
In Fishguard, clouds dominate with occasional heavy rain. Bright sun only briefly interrupts these rains, which can exceed 18 mm on some days.
As the path progresses to Pwll Deri, patchy rain and cloudiness prevail. Highs reach upto 14°C, and heavy rain can disrupt the otherwise moderate showers.
At Porthgain, overcast skies are often coupled with heavy showers. Nonetheless, the path also sees clear, sunny days, showing temperature peaks around 14°C.
Continuing to Whitesands, conditions swing between bright and wet, with heavy rain interspersed across several days, and temperatures around 15°C at their warmest.
Near Solva, the weather remains unpredictable with a blending of sun and heavy showers. Rainfall regularly hits double digits, marking the trail's dynamic weather.
Broad Haven offers patchy rain and significant downpours. Despite some sunny days, rainfall can reach substantial levels around 18 mm.
Around Martin’s Haven and Dale, the weather maintains its pattern of heavy rain punctuated by sunny moments, leading into Neyland and Angle where showers often transition quickly from light to heavy.
In Freshwater West, the weather varies between sunny intervals and significant showers that mark the trail's notorious weather patterns. Moving onwards through Broad Haven South to Amroth, occasional sunny spells interject heavy downpours, with the days warming slightly towards the end of the path.
