In March, the Camino Portugués Central experiences a typical spring climate with varying conditions across its regions. From Lisboa to Santiago de Compostela, the walkers witness fluctuating temperatures and differing precipitation levels. While temperatures steadily climb as spring approaches, weather remains capricious, with a high chance of rain and occasional sunny spells.
Starting in Lisboa, the weather varies significantly, with intermittent rain showers and sporadic sunny days. Highs hover around 14°C to 18°C, while lows range from 6°C to 13°C. Rain is prevalent, but there are dry patches especially in Alpriate and Vila Franca de Xira, before increasing noticeably again in Azambuja.
As walkers enter Santarém and Golegã, the rain showers persist yet alternate with periods of sunshine, especially evident around Golegã. Temperatures generally vary from 11°C to 22°C.
Moving north into Centro, drier conditions emerge gradually in Coimbra and nearby areas. Temperature highs range from 12°C to 25°C with periodic heavy rain, especially around Alvaiázere and Alvorge.
In Norte, the weather stabilizes with clearer skies in Barcelos, though the potential for rain never completely vanishes. Temperatures see a little dip, with highs around 14°C to 23°C.
Crossing into Galicia opens with frequent rain in Tui, but conditions improve towards Redondela and Pontevedra with sunny interludes. By the time pilgrims reach Santiago de Compostela, rain remains frequent. Temperature highs fluctuate between 10°C and 23°C, while lows stay cooler, down to 1°C.
