In September, the Camino Portugués: Faro - Santarém experiences varied weather patterns typical of the late summer to early autumn transition. The Alentejo region generally sees sunny weather with occasional showers. Temperatures remain warm with highs ranging from the mid-20s to mid-30s Celsius. However, brief rainy periods may occur, particularly towards the end of the month. Heading into the Ribatejo region, the weather remains relatively consistent with sun and clouds mixing, and brief periods of rain showers. Throughout the month, temperatures in Ribatejo experience minor fluctuations, with highs typically in the mid-20s to low 30s Celsius, becoming cooler as the path moves towards Santarém.
Starting in Faro, September is marked by warm, predominantly sunny days, with occasional clouds and brief rain showers which last for only short periods. Highs consistently hover around the high 20s. As travelers progress to Loulé and Salir, similar weather patterns unfold, with sporadic rain showers and many sunny days, generally without significant precipitation. In Almodôvar and Castro Verde, short rain spells might appear amidst sunny intervals, especially as the journey nears mid-month, although significant rainfall remains scarce.
Continuing through Santa Cruz, Santiago do Cacém, and towards Grândola, weather tends to be primarily sunny, notwithstanding a scattered light rain shower. By the time travelers reach Alcácer do Sal, variations manifest, with cloudy skies developing more frequently and short sessions of heavy rain interspersed through sunnier moments.
As the route advances into the Ribatejo region, starting in Casebres, the weather becomes more unpredictable. While sunny days are predominant, patches of rain, sometimes heavy, are scattered throughout, with temperatures remaining comfortably warm. In urban areas like Vendas Novas and Branca, sporadic showers are more evident, especially as the path leads towards Benavente.
Approaching the end of the trail, localities such as Muge and Santarém see a mix of cloudy and partly cloudy skies, occasionally interrupted by rain showers. Despite the presence of rain, sunny breaks are frequent and travel remains feasible. Temperatures in Santarém tend to slightly cool towards the latter part of the journey but maintain comfortable highs for trekking.
