The Senda Litoral goes through many coastal towns in Portugal and Spain. The weather in January changes slowly, beginning with temperatures between 10°C and 14°C, dropping to around 4°C to 6°C in northern Galicia.
You start in Porto, where the weather can change quickly. It may be partly cloudy with some periods of medium or heavy rain. At the start of the journey, you might experience some rain, sun, and cloudy weather.
As you go to places like Vila Chã and Póvoa de Varzim, you might get some rain, and also more sunny times. These places are a bit like Porto, but usually less rainy.
The route then takes you through Northern Portugal and into Galicia, Spain, starting in Marinhas. Here, you'll see more sun and less rain. But the temperatures will get a bit colder.
When you get to Viana do Castelo and Caminha, you'll see more sun. It usually rains less in these places, but heavier rain can still happen sometimes.
The weather gets colder and more varied in southern Galicia, including Porto Mougás and Saians. You'll see all types of weather from sun to rain, and cloud.
Finally, places like Redondela, Pontevedra, Caldas de Reis, and Padrón have less predictable weather. By the time you get to Santiago de Compostela, average temperatures are between 4°C and 10°C. The weather here can change quickly from moderate or heavy rain showers to sunny days and even heavier rain at times.
