Auckland

Starting in Auckland, the weather in January is mostly mild with variations of sunny and cloudy days. High temperatures range from 19°C to 24°C, with lows between 13°C and 19°C. Rain is intermittent, with some days experiencing heavy showers up to 24 mm particularly in Mangere Bridge and The Gardens.

Waikato

Moving into Waikato, the weather continues with similar patterns of mixed conditions. Meremere and Rangiriri experience sunny spells mixed with patchy rain, with occasional heavy showers in Rangiriri reaching up to 16 mm. In Huntly, the trail sees heavy rainfall, recording up to 51 mm at times, contrasted by warm and sunny intervals. Along Pukete to Kaniwhaniwha Campsite, there is a tendency of overcast skies interspersed with moderate showers. Progressing through to Te Kūiti, the region sees a fair share of sunshine, mix of cloud and sporadic rain showers, rounding off the trail with a characteristic blend of Waikato weather.
