Auckland

Starting in Auckland, the weather fluctuates with a mix of sunshine and cloudy days accompanied by moderate to heavy rain showers, particularly around Mangere Bridge and The Gardens. Temperatures climb as high as 23°C, with lows not dropping below 12°C, making for generally pleasant walking conditions despite occasional precipitation up to 48 mm in Rosehill and Bombay.

Waikato

In the Waikato region, hikers will find variable conditions from Meremere through to Te Kūiti. In the early stages around Meremere, moderate temperatures of up to 21°C are accompanied by mainly light rain. Rangiriri and Huntly present a similar mix, though rainfall intensifies on occasions, with showers reaching 10 mm or so. Moving further south through Pukete and Waipa, brief sunny spells offer relief amidst clouds and rain. Karamu and Kaniwhaniwha Campsite feature significant but sporadic rainfall, with some days seeing up to 37 mm. As the trail leads into the winding paths near Te Rauamoa, Otorohanga, and Waitomo, periods of overcast and rain showers become more frequent, with heavier falls of up to 66 mm not uncommon. Completing the journey in Te Kūiti, walkers experience varied conditions with possible heavy showers but also clear spells, offering a complex but rewarding close to the route.
