Beginning at Cape Reinga, the weather features moderate to heavy rain showers early in the month, occasionally breaking into partly cloudy conditions and rising temperatures periodically reaching 18°C. Moving to Te Paki, early sunny periods give way to significant showers, with highs reaching 19°C amidst fluctuating cloud cover.

In Te Kao, the weather remains volatile with intermittent heavy rain showers and occasional sunny spells. The temperatures remain moderate, ranging between 10°C and 18°C, while precipitation varies significantly.

Pukenui experiences similar variability, with a balance between periods of sunshine and heavy rain showers. As walkers reach Waipapakauri, the pattern continues with alternating moderate showers and sunny intervals, and temperatures climbing to 20°C at times.

Progressing to Ahipara and Kaitaia, the weather sees some sunny spells interrupted by periods of rain. Moving down the trail, Raetea Peak and Mangamuka experience increased rainfall and cooler temperatures, while Kaikohe-Hokianga stays wet with sporadic sunny breaks.

In more southern sections like Kerikeri and Bay of Islands, rain showers persist, albeit with some periods of clear skies, especially in Paihia and Waikare, where temperatures maintain between 7°C and 22°C.

Further along, Whangarei and Ōakura enjoy longer dry spells punctuated by occasional heavy rain, reflecting a trend that extends through Whananaki and Matapouri. Finally, as trekkers approach Auckland, a consistent mix of patches of rain and heavy downpours are evident, maintaining the variability typical of the Northland coast during October.
