Beginning at Cape Reinga, the weather is marked by moderate to heavy rain showers interspersed with patchy rain and partly cloudy days. Daily highs hover around 21°C, while lows fluctuate between 13°C and 18°C. As hikers reach Te Paki and Te Kao, conditions remain similar, with occasional sunny intervals offering brief respite from the clouds, and temperatures varying slightly, maintaining pleasant hiking conditions.

Continuing through Waipapakauri and Ahipara, rain showers persist, yet there are promising breaks where sunny periods prevail, especially in Waipapakauri, where highs reach up to 24°C. The varied weather in Kaitaia includes some of the heaviest rainfall on record, resulting in damp yet refreshingly cool conditions.

Upon reaching Paihia and the subsequent trail sections through Whangarei and the Ocean Beach area, the trend of alternating rain and sunshine continues, yet with more frequent and intense rain periods that herald the transition towards Auckland. In and around Auckland, the pattern shifts towards fewer sunny days, with a noticeable increase in heavy showers as the endpoint nears, although temperatures remain comfortably warm, fluctuating between 22°C and 26°C during daytime, leading to a lush and verdant environment.
