Marlborough

Beginning in Picton, the weather presents a mix of sunshine and rain showers, with temperatures ranging from as low as 3°C to highs around 15°C. As you move towards Schoolhouse Bay Campsite, expect partly cloudy conditions interspersed with moderate rain showers. Further along at Endeavour Inlet, the pattern continues with a blend of cloudy and sunny spells, while temperatures maintain a moderate range.

As hikers progress to Camp Bay Campsite and Bay of Many Coves, sunny periods are coupled with significant rainfall, especially during heavy showers. Torea Bay also sees heavy rain showers, particularly on some days when torrents reach over 40 mm. Sunny spells do break through, offering brief respite.

At Te Māhia and Anakiwa, the trend persists: predominantly sunny with intermittent heavy showers, bringing a significant amount of rain. Onahau Bay, despite occasional sunshine, is not exempt from heavy rain bursts.

Continuing to Canvastown and Pelorus Bridge, cloud cover increases, yet sunny intervals are enjoyed amidst sporadic heavy rain showers. Rainfall here can be intense, occasionally exceeding 40 mm.

Tasman

Upon entering the Tasman region, at locations like Starveall Hut, expect sunny spells but be prepared for moderate rains. Cloudiness prevails at times, but sunshine punctuates, particularly at Old Man and Bishops Cap. Top Wairoa Hut faces several consecutive wet days, with heavy rain showers dominating the scene.

Hunters Hut experiences heavy rain more often, although dry spells occur, exhibiting the balance of weather extremes. Beeby's Knob offers a similar story; while aspects of sunny weather are present, rain showers loom large, often intensifying unexpectedly.

At St Arnaud, the weather begins to stabilize with more consistent sunny spells. However, rain persists through patchy occurrences, culminating in one of the most weather-diverse stretches of the trail.
