Starting in Picton, the weather is generally sunny with occasional days of patchy rain. Despite this, temperatures are mostly comfortable, ranging from 16°C to 26°C. As you progress to Schoolhouse Bay Campsite and Endeavour Inlet, the pattern continues with a combination of moderate rain showers and clear spells, resulting in varied conditions. Camp Bay Campsite and Bay Of Many Coves Campsite see more pronounced periods of rain, though interspersed with stretches of sunshine, keeping temperatures in the comfortable low to mid twenties. Moving through Torea Bay and Onahau Bay, the region experiences more variability with moderate rain at times. Towards Te Māhia and Anakiwa, the climate lightens slightly with sunnier intervals and less severe precipitation.
As hikers transition to the Tasman region starting at Starveall Hut, the climate remains variable, with burst of sunshine tempered by intermittent heavy showers, particularly around Old Man and Bishops Cap. Temperatures here generally sit between 18°C to 27°C. Top Wairoa Hut encounters some of the heaviest rainfall along the trail, characterized by moderate or heavy rain showers balanced by sunny breaks. This pattern persists through to Hunters Hut and Beeby's Knob, where moderate rain and cloud cover dominate.
