During May, the Vía de la Plata trail experiences a range of weather conditions as it traverses through the regions of Andalusia, Extremadura, Castile and León, and Galicia. Starting in Andalusia, walkers can expect primarily sunny and warm weather with temperatures frequently reaching the high 20s to low 30s°C, though rain and cloud cover do occur intermittently. In Extremadura, the climate remains generally warm, with a mix of sunny days and sporadic rain showers. As travelers progress into Castile and León, cooler temperatures and more frequent rain showers become apparent, especially towards the end of the month. Galicia, the final region, presents variable weather, with regular occurrences of rain and cooler temperatures, though sunny spells are also common.

Andalusia

In Sevilla and surrounding areas, sunny weather dominates, intermittently broken by heavy rain, particularly early in the month. Temperatures often rise to over 30°C, with nighttime lows dipping to around 10°C. Progressing to Guillena and Castilblanco de los Arroyos, the skies mostly clear, with isolated showers on some days.

Extremadura

Near Monesterio, the weather alternates between sunny spells and heavy rain, especially in the first half of May. As you continue to Fuente de Cantos and Zafra, expect similar patterns, with occasional heavy showers and sunny days peaking around 30°C. Villafranca de los Barros sees heavier rain in isolated incidents, but Mérida generally experiences drier conditions.

Castile and León

Entering La Calzada de Béjar, the weather shifts with more overcast days and occasional rain showers, while temperatures drop to the low 20s°C. Fuenterroble de Salvatierra to Salamanca experiences mild, sunny days interspersed with rain and cooler temperatures, particularly in the evenings.

Galicia

In A Gudiña, sunny days give way to more frequent rain showers, increasingly intense towards Laza and Xunqueira de Ambía. Temperatures generally remain in the low to mid-20s°C. Entering Ourense and Cea, expect similar conditions with periodic heavy rain. Towards Santiago de Compostela, the month concludes with frequent heavy rain showers and cool temperatures, under 20°C during the day.
