Schleswig-Holstein

Starting by the Baltic, the weather feels maritime: mostly overcast with regular spells of drizzle, sleet, and at times wet snow, and a brisk onshore breeze on exposed sections. Moving inland toward the old Hanseatic heartland, passing fronts bring a back‑and‑forth of light rain and snow showers, punctuated by brief clearer interludes. Closer to the Elbe valley the pattern stays mixed—cloudy much of the time with scattered showers, occasional heavier bursts, and periodic flakes when colder air edges in. Temperatures hover around freezing by day and often dip below at night.

Niedersachsen

Crossing the northern lowlands, lingering cloud and light drizzle alternate with drier pauses, with daytime readings generally a touch above freezing and colder nights in clearer spells. Through the central stretches, weak Atlantic pulses deliver bands of rain switching to wet snow, and at times short, more vigorous snowfall as the air cools behind fronts. Farther south toward the Leine valley, the mix leans a little colder, with frequent snow showers broken by milder interludes that turn precipitation to rain. Winds are usually light to moderate, briefly gusty with frontal passages.

Thüringen

Entering the Eichsfeld and Werra landscapes, the month turns more wintry and settled in feel, with long cloudy spells and recurrent snow showers that occasionally build into moderate or heavy snowfall. Between these colder phases, short thaws bring drizzle or light rain before the air cools again and precipitation returns to flakes. Valleys are often calm, while ridgelines can feel livelier in passing systems. Temperatures are often below freezing, with only brief lifts to a little above during milder pushes.
