Starting from the Dublin edge, the trail often begins under overcast skies with patchy drizzle, sometimes thickening to light or moderate rain. Dry gaps do appear between bands of cloud. Temperatures are generally around 5–15°C, feeling cool and a little milder during any sunny breaks.
Across the uplands toward Roundwood, showers remain common, ranging from fine drizzle to brief light rain. Cloud tends to dominate, but there are occasional clearer windows with brighter skies. On the higher ground, a short-lived sleety or snowy flurry can crop up in April.
Through Glendalough and into Glenmalure, expect a mix of overcast periods and showery intervals, with the odd spell of steadier rain. Between bands, it can turn noticeably brighter and feel a touch milder. Valleys can linger under low cloud, keeping surfaces damp even when it isn’t raining.
Further south past Moyne and Shillelagh toward Clonegal, the pattern stays mixed: long stretches of quiet, grey weather punctuated by light rain or drizzle. Several sections are mostly dry, but one or two days can bring prolonged rain, at times heavy. The final miles often feel cool and mostly cloudy, with only brief sunny breaks.
