From the city edge into the Dublin Mountains, expect plenty of cloud and frequent light drizzle, with short spells of light rain. Climbing towards the first ridges brings a higher chance of a heavier shower, but there are warm, brighter gaps between bands. Daytime temperatures typically sit in the mid‑teens to low 20s Celsius, a little cooler on exposed heights.

Around Roundwood and the reservoirs, the pattern stays changeable: passing drizzle and light rain alternate with longer overcast stretches. At times a more organized band brings steadier rain, then skies lift again for a quieter spell. Sunshine is limited but does break through between systems.

Through Glendalough and over to Glenmalure, showers are frequent and can merge into longer periods of rain, particularly on the higher slopes. Valleys can hold low cloud, reducing views, before brighter windows return. The wettest intervals tend to be short-lived, with calmer pauses following.

Dropping toward Moyne and Shillelagh, conditions ease a little with more dry or simply overcast hours and only light drizzle at times. A few days turn quite pleasant with decent sunny breaks, though a passing band can still bring a wetter hour. Overall the day-to-day feel is still mixed rather than settled.

Approaching Clonegal, lower ground sees the better of the bright spells, but cloud often fills back in. Most stretches are dry or just damp, punctuated by occasional moderate rain as fronts ripple through. Clearer periods are possible late in the day before the next batch of cloud arrives.
