From the city edge into the first hills, days tend to start overcast, with mist or drizzle on higher ground. Light showers drift through, but there are stretches that stay mostly dry before another band arrives. Afternoons usually settle into mild, walking-friendly temperatures, generally mid-teens to around 20°C.

Across the upland lakes and into the Glendalough valley, the pattern holds: a lot of cloud with on-and-off light rain or drizzle. At times a band of rain brings steadier falls for several hours, and low cloud can sit in the valleys before lifting to brighter breaks.

Over the long forest and moor crossings toward Moyne, showers remain frequent, and one day can turn into a soaking with persistent, heavier rain. Between systems, hours of dry, grey weather are common, and the air often feels damp after the rain eases.

Farther south through Shillelagh toward Clonegal, the air sometimes feels a touch warmer and longer dry windows appear with occasional sunshine. Showers still pop up, and a heavier burst is possible, but many days pass with only brief light rain.
