February on the Alta Via 1 is deep winter. Most days are cloudy and cold, with frequent snowfall and only short, bright breaks. Storms arrive in pulses that lay down fresh snow across the range. Temperatures stay well below freezing on the high ground, edging toward freezing only in the lowest valleys during brief lulls. Clear, calm days do happen, but the pattern favors overcast skies, light to moderate snow, and occasional heavier bursts.

From Lago di Braies to Rifugio Biella, the month brings a steady run of overcast skies and recurring snowfall. Clear windows are brief between systems, and fresh snow is common after each front. Temperatures sit well below freezing most days.
Crossing toward Rifugio Fanes, the weather stays unsettled. Light snow often lingers under thick cloud, with occasional heavier falls as new systems pass. Short, brighter pauses can follow, but the cold remains dominant.
From Rifugio Lagazuoi across to Rifugio Nuvolau and on to Rifugio Città di Fiume, conditions stay wintry and changeable. Overcast skies prevail with regular snow showers, and heavier bursts sweep through at times. It is mostly below freezing at elevation, with only brief near-freezing spells in the lowest, sheltered stretches.
Continuing past Rifugio Coldai to Vazzoler and Bruto Carestiato, systems alternate with short lulls. Expect long cloudy stretches with intermittent light to moderate snow, then a clearer day before the next round arrives. Sunshine is most likely right after a front, but cloud returns quickly.
From Rifugio Sommariva al Pramperét to Rifugio Pian de Fontana and down toward La Pissa, the sky remains changeable. Snow still leads, though lower down it can turn wetter around brief thaws, and cloud is common. Between waves, calmer, brighter spells open views before the next snowfall moves in.
