Climbing to Rifugio Biella, precipitation turns to regular snow, sometimes heavy, and low cloud frequently brushes the ridges. Crossing the open Fanes plateau, the pattern stays unsettled with alternating dry windows and snow showers, with brief drizzle on lower approaches. Temperatures range from generally below freezing on the high plateaus to a touch above freezing in sheltered lower spots.
Over the high crests around Lagazuoi and Nuvolau, early winter is set in: repeated snowfalls, at times intense, punctuated by short, bright interludes. Dropping toward Città di Fiume and the Coldai area, precipitation often flips between snow at altitude and cold rain or sleet lower down, with cloud lingering on the passes.
