When to walk the Ruta del Argar (Lorca → Toledo)

The ideal months to start the Ruta del Argar are late March to early May, or late September to early November. That’s when days are comfortable for long, exposed stretches, with enough daylight to keep stages flexible and only occasional rain to plan around.

This route leaves the dry hills around Lorca and heads across open plains and sierras into Toledo. Summer heat can be fierce and winter brings short days and sharp mornings, so the shoulder seasons make the walking feel steadier and less effortful.

Late March to early May (spring window)

Why it’s good: you can cover distance comfortably without chasing shade or carrying excessive water, and you still get long enough days to keep stages flexible.

Late September to early November (autumn window)

Why it’s good: kinder temperatures, fewer heat‑management issues, and generally stable walking conditions.

Mid–May to mid–September (hot season)

If you must go: start at first light, take long midday breaks, and build shorter stages with known water points.

Late November to mid–March (cool, changeable)

Walkable with good gear and flexibility, but expect more stop‑start days and pack for real cold at times.

In short: aim for late Mar–early May or late Sep–early Nov for the most comfortable, steady walking from Lorca to Toledo.

Of course, while these recommendations provide a solid starting point, everyone's preferences and circumstances are unique. For example, if you prefer walking in the cooler morning hours to avoid midday heat, you might prioritize dates with drier conditions. On the other hand, if you are more accustomed to colder climates, you may choose to avoid hotter periods - even if it means encountering more rain. Our search tool allows you to customize your journey to align with your specific needs and preferences, ensuring the best possible experience on the Camino.
