Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

From Le Bourg-d'Oisans the month opens with mixed skies: overcast spells and light drizzle alternate with clearer breaks, and even wet snow is possible during colder pulses. Climbing toward Clavans-le-Bas the air turns colder and snow showers become more frequent under stubborn cloud. On the heights around the Refuge des Mouterres, winter hangs on with regular snowfall and occasional heavier dumps between short, calmer windows. Temperatures run from cold on the tops to cool or mild in the valley.

Further along, dropping into Le Désert en Valjouffrey and Valsenestre, the pattern stays changeable: mostly cloudy with light rain or drizzle at times, then brighter intervals. Higher nearby slopes still see snow episodes when systems pass, while lower villages are more likely to have rain or a sleety mix. Around the Refuge de la Muzelle, fresh snow remains likely and overcast is common, though brief sunny breaks can open up. Returning to Le Bourg-d'Oisans, conditions ease again to a milder valley feel punctuated by showers, with the chance of a soaking spell when a stronger front arrives.

Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

Crossing into the southern side at the Refuge de l'Alpe de Villar-d'Arène, cloud often dominates and snowfall is frequent, at times heavy. Dropping to Le Monêtier-les-Bains, the valley alternates between bright, dry spells and passing snow or rain showers. Through Vallouise, overcast days are common but long dry interludes also occur, with only occasional wintry bursts. Here too, temperatures span cold on the passes to cool or mild on the valley floors.

Climbing toward the Pré de la Chaumette and Vallonpierre, winter reasserts itself: regular snowfalls, sometimes heavy, with short, clear breaks. The descent to La Chapelle-en-Valgaudémar usually brings a milder, more mixed picture, ranging from sunshine to overcast with light rain or drizzle and only occasional snow. The final push to the Refuge des Souffles trends wintry again, with fresh snow likely under cloud and brief sunny windows between systems.
