Saxony

From the eastern border onward, days tend to start grey with frequent flurries, and cold snaps bring stretches of light to moderate snowfall. As the way crosses fields toward the plains, precipitation often toggles between wet snow and drizzle, with occasional heavier bursts; brief thaws introduce rainy interludes before skies close again. Near the Leipzig area there are still many overcast hours, but short, brighter windows can appear between showery spells, and nights often refreeze. Typical temperatures run from well below freezing at dawn to around 10°C on the mildest afternoons.

Saxony-Anhalt

Across the Saale–Unstrut country, the pattern steadies a little, with longer dry windows between passing bands of drizzle or sleet. Snowfall is usually lighter and shorter-lived here, often turning to rain on milder days, while cloud dominates with brief sunny breaks on the slopes. Temperatures generally sit near freezing in the mornings and can rise into the low teens during thaws.

Thuringia

West from the Ettersberg through the basin and into the Werra valley, overcast skies are frequent and the precipitation mix shifts back and forth between wet snow, sleet, and light rain. Light rain becomes more common toward the west, yet short colder bursts still deliver snow showers on higher or open stretches. Between fronts, there are brief, mild windows that feel springlike before cloud and showers return. Expect temperatures from a few degrees below freezing at first light to around the mid-teens on the mildest afternoons.
