Weather forecast for the Jakobsweg Via Regia in August

August on the Jakobsweg Via Regia is classic central European summer. Days are warm to hot, nights mostly comfortable. Skies flip between bright sunshine and banks of cloud, and many afternoons carry a chance of a passing shower or a short thunderstorm. Some stretches run dry and hazy for hours, while other days sit under stubborn overcast with intermittent light rain or drizzle. Heat tends to build in pulses, then a rain line clears the air and trims temperatures for a day or two. Wind is usually light, with only brief gustiness around showers. Overall, there is plenty of walkable weather punctuated by sudden wet spells.

Saxony

Starting in Görlitz and heading through Buchholz, Bautzen, and St. Marienstern, the pattern is changeable: bright breaks trade with wide cloud layers, and showers bubble up after warm, humid spells. Most afternoons sit in the mid-20s to low 30s Celsius, with short thundery bursts possible; nights are generally mild and a touch fresher after rain.

Continuing via Königsbrück, Schönfeld, Großenhain, and Strehla toward Börln, Nepperwitz, Leipzig, and Kleinliebenau, longer dry windows appear under hazy sunshine before scattered showers return. Some passes bring steadier light rain and a grey feel, then clearer, fresher air follows the line of storms, leaving pleasant, partly sunny intervals before the next pulse.

Saxony-Anhalt

Into Merseburg and the Saale–Unstrut hills around Freyburg and Roßbach, the weather often steadies under warm sunshine with patchy cloud. Days are generally in the 20s Celsius, but the moist air can spark late-day showers or a local thunderstorm; nights remain comfortably mild.

Approaching Eckartsberga, weak fronts sometimes stall, bringing overcast skies with periods of light to moderate rain before breaking up. Clearer intervals then return, and the route alternates between bright, dry stretches and brief, showery interruptions.

Thuringia

Across Stedten am Ettersberg and Erfurt to Gotha, conditions turn more variable again, with warm spells alternating with cooler, cloudier days. Showers are fairly frequent and can merge into longer rain at times, but there are also extended dry gaps; most days sit in the low to mid-20s Celsius, with occasional hotter surges.

From Hastrungsfeld through Eisenach to Oberellen and Vacha, expect similar swings: sunny breaks give way to drizzle or a passing thundery burst, then clearer weather follows. The Werra valley can feel humid after rain before turning fresh, and nights trend comfortably mild throughout.
