Laugavegur crosses exposed uplands between Landmannalaugar and Þórsmörk, where conditions shift quickly and rivers respond to rain and melt, with wind often reshaping the day. Long daylight, open huts, and mostly snow‑free travel define the short main season, especially in July and August, when waymarks are out of the snow and buses run regularly. Outside this window, snow, wind, and stormy spells are frequent, with winter conditions dominating the high ground and fords becoming more demanding, and navigation more serious on the Hrafntinnusker plateau.
