About weather on the Wicklow Way

The Wicklow Way runs from Marlay Park to Clonegal under Atlantic skies, with cloud, light showers, and short brighter breaks; forests, boardwalks, and upland tracks see frequent damp intervals rather than long settled spells. June and July bring long days, mild to warm afternoons in valleys, and generally firmer ground on open hills. Elsewhere the pattern is changeable rather than extreme, with regular drizzle or showers, occasional heavier bursts, cooler uplands, and usable dry windows between passing bands.

  • Spring: Changeable and mostly cloudy, with frequent light showers, occasional longer bursts, cool to mild days, and brief wintry spells on higher sections.
  • Summer: Long days with mixed skies: lots of cloud, regular light showers, brief heavier bursts, brighter spells, warmer valleys and cooler upland sections.
  • Autumn: Mostly cloudy and damp, with frequent drizzle or light rain, occasional heavier bands, brief sunshine in dry windows, and steadily shortening daylight.
  • Winter: Cold to cool and grey, with frequent drizzle or light rain, occasional heavier spells, sleet or snow on higher ground, and frosty nights.
