About weather on the GR 20

The GR 20 traverses Corsica’s high crest, where alpine-like ridges sit above Mediterranean valleys and conditions shift quickly. Many walkers target June, July, or August, when lingering snow usually retreats from the main line and services run. Daylight is long, refuges are staffed, and mainly dry periods are interrupted by brief showers or thundery bursts, with warmer valleys and cooler ridges; afternoon cloud often builds on the crest, and foot traffic increases in peak holiday weeks.

  • Spring: Changeable, with frequent showers and clear breaks; highs around 0–20°C, nights 0–10°C, occasional subzero cols, and 20–35 mm wet days.
  • Summer: Warm to hot lower down, cooler crests; many dry days, with localized downpours delivering 10–40 mm and nights 6–12°C at altitude.
  • Autumn: Highly changeable; lower elevations around 17–32°C, cooler ridges, frequent rain or downpours with 30–88 mm days, and increasing nighttime chill.
  • Winter: Firmly wintry on the crest: frequent cloud, snow and rain, subzero days and nights, with episodes near -15°C and heavy precipitation.
