About weather on the Camino del Salvador

The Camino del Salvador crosses from the dry plateau of León into the greener, rain‑washed hills of Asturias, including a meaningful mountain pass. Balancing heat on the León side with showers and cloud in Asturias, many walkers choose April, May, and September for cooler temperatures and longer daylight. Outside these windows, conditions swing from hot, exposed stretches and afternoon storms in midsummer to colder, wetter, and occasionally snowy spells through winter, with shorter days.

  • Spring: Cool walking, longer days, fresh greenery, and frequent changeability, with sunshine, showers, muddy paths, cold mornings, and occasional snow or sleet on higher ground.
  • Summer: Long daylight and generally stable mornings, but heat and exposure on the León side, plus increasing afternoon showers or storms approaching the Asturian hills.
  • Autumn: Mixed sunshine and passing showers, milder early then cooler later, with shorter days, slick leaf‑covered paths, and more frequent rainy or occasionally stormy spells.
  • Winter: Cold starts on the plateau, frequent rain in the hills, chances of snow or ice on the pass, shorter daylight, and limited pilgrim services.
